MacEwan Griffins Athletics has a proud tradition of competing in hockey, basketball, volleyball, soccer, curling, cross country running, golf and dance. We compete against 17 other Alberta and Saskatchewan colleges in the Alberta College Athletic Conference (ACAC).
Top Institution in Canada
Griffins Athletics is one of the top collegiate athletic and academic institutions in Canada. We continually strive for excellence and are constantly demonstrating this each year by achieving numerous ACAC medals, ACAC all-conference award winners and ACAC players and coaches of the year.
In 2008-09, MacEwan set a new standard of success sending five teams to National Championships. Leading the way was the Men's Volleyball Team, winning their first Men's Volleyball CCAA (Canadian Colleges Athletic Association) National Championship. The Men's Volleyball Team will have a one in eight opportunity to repeat this year, as they host the 2010 CCAA Men's National Volleyball Championships at MacEwan March 11-13.
Overall in 2008-09, MacEwan won CCAA National Gold (MVB), CCAA National Silver (WVB), 2 ACAC Gold medals (MVB, WSOC), 2 ACAC Silver medals (WVB, WBB) and 2 ACAC Bronze medals (X-Country, MSOC). The Griffins also received two ACAC coaches of the year honours for Women's Basketball and Women's Soccer.
Achievable Excellence
Excellence, achievement and balance in academics and athletics are important values to Griffins Athletics and demonstrated by athletes each year. Every year, a number of our athletes receive ACAC Academic Athlete Awards, CCAA Academic All-Canadian status and CCAA Scholar Athlete recognition. In 2008-09 the Griffins had 3 CCAA Academic All Canadians, 20 ACAC All Conference Awards, 3 CCAA Fair-Play Awards at National Championships and 1 Nationals MVP.
