Tyler

Age: 32

Starting Polar BodyAge: 39

Trainer: Rachelle

Why did you decide to put your name forward for this competition?
It was a good opportunity to get into shape (rather than be a shape, mainly round).  At the end of my beer league hockey this year I mentioned to our team organizer that I would only be coming back if I lost 20 to 30 lbs.  I had no Idea how I was going to achieve this.  When this competition became available, it was just what I needed to get me going since I am a rather competitive person.  To make my diet and workout regiment a competition, it was too good to pass up.

What are you ultimately trying to accomplish? What is your goal(s)?
I would like to lose 30lbs, increase my muscle strength / mass, increase my flexibility, increase my cardio / stamina and of course lower my body age.

What is your fitness background and how active were you leading to this competition?
My fitness background leading into this was nonexistent; I was your everyday weekend warrior.  In the winter I would play hockey approximately once a week, but let's be realistic, it was more for the 1 - 2 pops I would have in the dressing room afterwards.  You know, win or lose hit the booze.  During the summer I would try to get out golfing once a week if possible, but once again it seemed like the beer cart girl would follow me everywhere.  I keep telling myself that it's because of my good looks but I think she just notices my beer gut and she thought I would be a good customer with good tips.  If that's the case, she would be correct.

How are things going so far?
Things are going great, I know I have lost some weight but I am trying to stay away from the scale (I don't want to start thinking I can slack off).  My trainer Rachelle is absolutely kicking the crap out of me and I like it.  As I am typing this my chest is killing me.  The diet is the toughest thing for me, it's been hard for me to go from 2 large meals a day and some bad snack like chip and chocolate to 5 smaller meals and snacks like low fat cottage cheese, fat free yogurt, mangos, and the big one, Original fiber 1 cereal and all bran buds (I have eaten more fiber / bran in the past 2 weeks then in the last 5 years.)

Is it what you expected?
So far, surprisingly yes it has been as I expected.  Going into this competition I knew it would be hard work and it wouldn't be easy.  On the other hand, I knew I had to change me eating habits and my fitness levels if I wanted anything to change.  I realize that if I wanted things to change, I had to make some changes.  When your 4-1/2 year old son starts to tell you that you shouldn't eat that because it has too much sugar, it makes you stop and think.  At least we are teaching him right.

What's the toughest thing you've done so far?
It might sound funny but the toughest thing was the day after I worked out my back / biceps / triceps I had a supplier golf tournament.  I was so sore that it hurt so much to straighten my arms and swing my golf clubs.  Also, everyone around me was pounding back a few adult beverages and I drank about 2L of water instead.

Who is going to win the contest?
There is no question in my mind, I will achieve my goals and win the competition.

How is Tyler doing?
Awesome! A combination of Tyler's motivation and my "go hard or go home" attitude is why we've seen the results we have so far!

Are you starting to see improvements?
Absolutely! We've seen some huge gains already ... weight loss and an increase of body and core strength!

Can he win it?
Hands down, we've got this competition ... the other guys should throw the towel in and give up!
