Student Member Information
For MacEwan Students
Students (6 credits per term or more) who pay the Sport and Wellness Fee* as part of their tuition receive a Plan B Membership to MacEwan Centre for Sport and Wellness. This gives you access to:
- The fitness area (cardio/weight equipment) except during peak hours: Monday to Friday, 12-1pm and 5-7pm Students can upgrade to a Plan A membership for $65 per semester. This would give them unlimited access during business hours.
- The pool and gymnasium during unscheduled times.
- FREE drop-in fitness and aquatics classes (this includes lunchtime and after school classes).
- The squash/racquetball courts.
ATTN: South Campus Students
South Campus students who pay the Sport and Wellness Fee as part of their tuition have access to the South Campus fitness area and a Plan A Membership at MacEwan Centre at City Centre Campus.
South Campus fitness area hours of operation:
Mon - Thurs: 7am - 6pm
Fri: 7am - 5pm
South Campus is NOT open to the public.
ATTN: Centre for the Arts and Communications (CFAC) Students
CFAC students who pay the Membership Fee as part of their tuition have access to the CFAC fitness room (on CFAC campus) and a Plan A Membership at MacEwan Centre at City Centre Campus. The CFAC campus fitness room is NOT open to the public.

* Included in the mandatory Sport and Wellness Fee is access to a medical clinic on campus including student priority appointments everyday. Health services are available Monday to Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm. Services include physician consultations, medical exams, student walk-in appointments, immunizations, allergy shots, gynaecology, birth control counselling, nutrition counselling, exam deferral notes and first aid.
The Sport and Wellness fee also goes towards MacEwan Recreation, which offers a variety of intramural leagues and tournaments to MacEwan students. The programs are designed to provide participants the opportunity to play their favourite sports with an emphasis on fairplay and sportsmanship. MacEwan students also get the exclusive opportunity to take part in Adventure programming through MacEwan Recreation, including scuba, skydiving, dog sledding, caving, kayaking, skiiing or snowboarding.
Also, the university athletic teams the MacEwan Griffins are partially funded through the student Sport and Wellness Fee. MacEwan Griffins Athletics has a proud tradition of competing in hockey, basketball, volleyball, soccer, curling, cross country running, and golf. These teams compete in the Alberta College Athletic Conference (ACAC) against 17 other Alberta and Saskatchewan colleges. MacEwan also offers has a competitive dance team. And all MacEwan students get free access to home Griffins games. In 2008/09, MacEwan set a new standard of success sending five teams to Nationals, with Men's Volleyball winning their first CCAA (Canadian Colleges Athletic Association) National Championship. MacEwan also won CCAA National Silver (WVB), 2 ACAC Gold medals (MVB, WSOC), 2 ACAC Silver medals (WVB, WBB) and 2 ACAC Bronze medals (X-Country, MSOC).
The Sport and Wellness Fee is a mandatory fee, with no opt-outs, assessed by Grant MacEwan University.
